Stange to Perform Worldly Ballads

Stange to Perform Worldly Ballads

Anna Stange has a powerful melodic voice and a gypsy-like smile throughout her story-telling presentation.  Stange is an accomplished folksinger and accompanies herself on guitar and banjo.  She has played all over the U.S. as well as Russia, Belgium, Venezuela and most recently South Africa.  Stange’s style of singing and storytelling appeals to audiences of all ages.  She enjoys singing the tradition of Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger and Joe Hill, though she is frequently compared to Joan Baez and Ella Jenkins.  Her performances are usually a mix of robust sing-alongs, ballads, and songs from around the world.

Anna Stange grew up in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and now lives in Blue Island, just south of Chicago.  She started playing guitar after her trumpet was stolen in a burglary about 25 years ago.  She has recorded four solo albums of folk songs.  Her most recent recording, “When Will We Ever Learn? Songs for Peace and Justice”, has received airplay on public radio stations throughout the Midwest.

Stange’s tour in Montgomery County will start on Monday, November 5th at the Coffeyville Meal Site, Sycamore Landing and Windsor Place Assisted Living before arriving at the Spencer/Rounds Theatre on the CCC Campus at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 6th. Stange will continue her tour of Coffeyville with Windsor Place, Windsor Place SCU and the Medicalodge of Coffeyville on Tuesday.  Wednesday she will entertain residents at Pickwick Place, Asbury Village and the Dale Apartments followed by the students at Caney Valley High School on Thursday and the Caney Nursing Home and Guest Home Estates in Caney on Friday.

The public is invited to the 10:20 a.m. Tuesday Humanities performances at CCC.  The performances are free and held in the Spencer/Rounds Theatre.  For more information call 620-251-7700 ext. 2145 or 2038.
