The Blues, Piedmont Style
ANDY COHEN grew up listening to his family’s Dixieland Jazz records, but at about fifteen, he was bitten by the Folk Music bug when he heard records by Big Bill Broonzy and the Jim Kweskin Jug Band, both of which reminded him of the music he grew up to. At sixteen, he saw Rev. Gary Davis, and his course was set. He knew he had it in him to follow, study, perform and promote the music of the southeast quadrant, America¹s great musical fountainhead.
A regular performer in the Humanities Series in Coffeyville, Andy promises to bring some fresh twist and new surprises, sharing music of the Piedmont Blues Style. Piedmont Blues guitar (coming from the Southeastern US), is a fingerpicking guitar style that is similar to ragtime or stride piano, with a syncopated rhythm and earthy blues lyrics and musical feel.
