Bluegrass Blues & Roots
Douglas Hawf, from Southern Illinois, has played music all his life and is a wizard of stringed instruments. Doug has performed Fiddle, Banjo, and Guitar as a cast member of the Smoky Mountain Tunes and Tales in Gatlinburg, TN. He tours regularly with Dennis Stroughmatt et l'Esprit Creole. Doug also performs with his family bluegrass band and is Violin Section Leader for Wabash String Ensemble of which he is a co-founder. With a program titled “Bluegrass, Blues, and Roots,” Doug takes listeners on a musical history ride showing how these 3 genres of music intertwine and how they have had an influence on Rock and Roll and even Pop. Doug finds it amazing that such diverse musical styles all arise out of 12 notes, and even the non-musicians in his audiences will walk away with a better understanding and appreciation of music in general. When Doug performs, audience members will be exposed to a variety of music ranging from Classic Rock to Classical and many styles in between! When he’s not out playing music, he enjoys working in his music store and sharing the joy of music with his many students. Doug will be joined with his wife, Tonia, playing String Bass and Ukulele.
