The CCC Spencer Rounds Theatre will come to life on Tuesday, February 21, with a variety of soldiers’ stories from World War I to present day missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Jon Brooks writes and performs songs to surprise, inspire, entertain, and calm those souls who've looked into and seen what is in their hearts; he also writes songs to terrify those who have not. In 2010, he became the fourth Canadian since 1975 to win the prestigious Kerrville (TX) 'New Folk' Award.
Founder of the Kerrville Folk Festival, the late Rod Kennedy said of Jon: “(Brooks) speaks and sings words that need to be spoken and sung and he does it beautifully, perfectly, and with absolute finesse.”
Jon also holds the dubious record of nominations for 'Songwriter of the Year' at The Canadian Folk Music Awards (2007, 2009, 2012, and 2015).
Brooks' performance at Coffeyville Community College will center around stories told by soldiers of their experiences in wars ranging from World War I to today’s missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The public is invited to the 10:30am Tuesday humanities performances at CCC. The performances are free and held in the Spencer/Rounds Theatre. For more information, call 620-251-7700 ext. 2145 or 2038.
