Coffeyville Community College welcomes the public to see Arlecia Elkamil on campus, Feb. 2 at 10:30 a.m. The performance is part of the CCC Humanities Project and admission is free.
Elkamil is a gospel artist and will soon be working on a gospel cd which will be released next year. She is currently playing with a group known as Las Chicas the Latin Rhythm Band. Las Chicas is an all-girl ensemble playing popular Latin music from the 40’s and 50’s era. She also performs with a group out of Joplin, Mo. called Kufara, an African marimba band that plays traditional Shona music from Zimbabwe.
Being a gospel marimba/cello artist, she plays traditional, jazz, and contemporary gospel music and travels playing in churches, concerts, and performing for special events.
Elkamil will be doing a week long music program consisting of vocals (gospel), instrumental, 30’s-50’s songs and the history and playing of African instruments in Coffeyville.
