The Coffeyville Community College Foundation recently received a generous donation for two endowed scholarships from alumni Carl and Mary Ice. The CCC Foundation was established in 1987 and continues to support individual students through scholarship. These scholarships are only possible due to generous donations from CCC alumni and friends such as Carl and Mary Ice. By endowing their gift, the Ice family has ensured that the principle of the gift will remain intact while the interest is used to fund the scholarships annually.
Carl Ice earned his associate in arts degree at CCC in 1976. While attending CCC, he played football for the Red Ravens, and was the recipient of the Pete Peltzer - Outstanding Offensive Lineman Award in 1975. He furthered his education at Kansas State University and earned his bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering. Mary attended CCC for one year and then transferred to Kansas State University. She graduated from the university’s College of Human Ecology in 1980 and earned a master’s degree from the Kansas State University College of Education in 1988. Carl and Mary have two adult children, Marshall and Karen, and they currently live in Westlake, Texas.
Ice is the President and Chief Operating Officer at BNSF Railway. Representing one of North America’s leading freight transportation companies, BNSF operates 33,500 miles of track in 28 states and two Canadian provinces. BNSF is one of the top transporters of consumer goods, grain, industrial goods and low-sulfur coal that help feed, clothe, supply and power American homes and businesses every day.
The Ice family understands the value of education for many of the students attending CCC. The Carl & Mary Ice Honorary Scholarship will fund the education of students who are financially in need.
