SkillsUSA officers for 2011-2012 have been elected and are: President- Thomas Passwater, Vice- President- Paul Morris, Secretary- Kip Overman and Treasurer-Christian Moerlien. SkillsUSA provides opportunities for students to develop and enhance the skills they need in order to be successful in future career and leadership endeavors. Participation in SkillsUSA enhances maturity, promotes career readiness and provides a smooth transition to the next career or educational goal. Students gain personal confidence by exposure to challenges, positive role models, and meaningful interactions which allow them to attain and showcase valuable career development skills for potential job placement. By participating in state and national competitions, students are able to demonstrate skills they have learned and have the opportunity to receive scholarships.
The Coffeyville Community College, Columbus Technical Campus Chapter of SkillsUSA will once again host the annual Columbus Day Car Show. The car show will be held during the Columbus Day Festival on Saturday, October 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Columbus Square. An entry fee of $15 the day of the show or a $12 pre-registration fee will be required for each car. Registration is from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m, with awards given out at 2 p.m.
Refreshments will be sold and a student built picnic table will be raffled to support CCC SkillsUSA students that go to state and national competitions. Friday evening, SkillsUSA students will also be helping with bingo and selling refreshments at the Bean Feed at the Columbus City Park.
