Christopher Mark Jones will be in Coffeyville the week of March 9 as part of the Coffeyville Community College Humanities Project.
In his program, entitled “Singing the Midwest”, Jones will mix stories and commentary with original and cover songs with Midwestern themes. A few of the original songs and related topics include “Dust to Dust” (about the Dust Bowl era), “Field of Dreams” (tracing a love story from youth to maturity in corn country), “Dakota Territory" (homesteaders in the upper Midwest), and “Question of Style” (the Mississippi river as a central metaphor for living authentically). Cover songs will include Neil Young’s “Prairie Wine”, “Red River Valley”, a traditional cowboy love song and “A Hobo’s Lullaby”, a depression-era classic as sung by Oklahoma native Woody Guthrie.
Jones’ tour in Montgomery County will start on Monday, March 9 at Sycamore Landing and Windsor Place Assisted Living before arriving at the Spencer/Rounds Theatre on the CCC Campus at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 10. Jones will continue his tour of Coffeyville with Windsor Place, Windsor Place SCU and the Medicalodge of Coffeyville on Tuesday afternoon. Wednesday, March 11, he will entertain residents at Pickwick Place, Asbury Village, and Dale Apartments followed by the students at Caney Valley High School on Thursday, March 12, and the Caney Nursing Center and Guest Home Estates in Caney on Friday, March 13.
The public is invited to the 10:30 a.m. Tuesday humanities performances at CCC. The performances are free and held in the Spencer/Rounds Theatre. For more information call 620-251-7700 ext. 2145 or 2038.
