Dana Cooper will be in Coffeyville the week of February 16 as part of the Coffeyville Community College Humanities Project.
Cooper is a master songwriter, singer, musician, and story teller. In 2014, he was named Heritage Musician of the Year. Originally from the Kansas City area, Cooper now lives in Nashville where he writes and records. He tours the United States and Europe and is about to release his 25th album titled Building a Human Being.
Cooper has spent his life as a songwriter and was often curious to know about the people behind the songs. Have you ever wondered what inspired the old song Willie and the Hand Jive? Do you know what Madonna, Bob Dylan and Peggy Lee all have in common? Cooper reveals a world of vibrant music and human experience that is often overlooked. Cooper’s performance, Black and Blues of Popular Music, will take the audience through a guided tour across the black and blue landscape of American music and introduce them to the heroes and heroines behind the songs.
Cooper’s tour in Montgomery County will start on Monday, Feb. 16 at Sycamore Landing and Windsor Place Assisted Living before arriving at the Spencer/Rounds Theatre on the CCC Campus at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17. Cooper will continue his tour of Coffeyville with Windsor Place, Windsor Place SCU and the Medicalodge of Coffeyville on Tuesday afternoon. Wednesday, Feb. 18, he will entertain residents at Pickwick Place, Asbury Village, and Dale Apartments followed by the students at Caney Valley High School on Thursday, Feb. 19, and the Caney Nursing Center and Guest Home Estates in Caney on Friday, Feb. 20.
The public is invited to the 10:30 a.m. Tuesday humanities performances at CCC. The performances are free and held in the Spencer/Rounds Theatre. For more information call 620-251-7700 ext. 2145 or 2038.
