Thirty-two members of the Eta Gamma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Coffeyville Community College met August 29 at 5:30 p.m. in Weinberg Hall for the chapter's first meeting of the fall semester. President Lisha Lamb led the group in Phi Theta Kappa's Mission Statement. The ice breaker, led by co-vice president of fellowship Karen Sue McKenzie, was won by Squire Ganetik. Door prizes were won by Wesley Merritt and Ryan Garrett. Member roll call, minutes, and correspondence were presented by secretary Courtney Hambleton. Kenny Dodson, treasurer, reported on four chapter fund raising projects and members signed up to assist with two upcoming projects for September 3 and 10.
Under old business, co-vice presidents of scholarship Courtney Crane and Meaghan Rettele presented an update on the chapter's Honors in Action Project. Cristin Shepard, co-vice president of service, shared the service committee's plans for the fall semester. Members had the opportunity to sign up for the KS/Nebraska Leadership Conference at Fort Hays State University September 23-24 and to assist with the chapter's College Project. Adviser Linda McFate reported the Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship is now open for applications. She also discussed the officer retreat and internationals' Reach Program.
The educational program was also presented by adviser McFate. The title of her power point program was "The Glory of Knock, Pilgrimage Site for the World." McFate had visited Knock, Ireland this past summer. The site is well-known throughout the world as a pilgrim destination. Chapter members enjoyed a dinner featuring barbecued pork and sides. The next general membership meeting will be September 19 at 5:30 p.m. in room 107, Weinberg Hall.
