Ground breaking began this week on a new spec house being constructed by Coffeyville Community College, Columbus Technical Campus Construction Technology Program.
The new home will be just under 1,900 square feet consisting of 3 bedrooms, 2 ½ bathrooms with an open floor plan and two car attached garage. The mission of the Construction Technology Program is to train skilled workers for the Kansas workforce. The new project house will take two years to complete. Students will participate in all aspects of residential construction from the foundation to the finished product including drywall finishing and custom cabinetry.
“All construction is completed by the students with the exception of the HVAC. Upon completion, the house will be sold, and the profits used to help fund future projects”, said Kevin Hunt, Construction Instructor.
The house is located at 812 Runway Lane in Columbus. Students in the Construction Program consist of post-secondary and high school students from Chetopa, Columbus, Girard, Riverton and Southeast high schools.
