The SkillsUSA State Competition was April 22-24 in Wichita, Kansas. SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit student organization serving teachers, high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service. Coffeyville Community College, Columbus Technical Campus students competed against technical students from across the state.
The SkillsUSA Championships is the showcase for the best career and technical students in the nation. Contests begin locally and continue through the state and national levels.
The philosophy of the Championships is to reward students for excellence, to involve industry in directly evaluating student performance and to keep training relevant to employers’ needs.
Students are tested in the written portion of the competition prior to the hands-on portion of the event.

Omer Hermes, 2nd Place Post-Secondary Vehicle Written (Omer was injured in a motorcycle accident on April 16 and passed away on May 3).
