The Coffeyville Community College theatre department closes out the first semester with the spotlight focused exclusively on the creative efforts of students.
Written by CCC students in last semester’s playwrighting class and directed by students in this fall’s directing project class, this year’s One Acts consist of six very different 10-minute plays to be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, and Friday, Dec. 5, in the Spencer / Rounds Performing Arts Theatre.
“A New Beginning,” by graduated sophomore Brianna Spence, is under the direction of Katlyn Weve, sophomore from Wichita, who puts a melodramatic twist on a classic breakup story.
Sublette sophomore Natalie Martinez is directing “The Harry Swinger Show,” a raucous comedy written by Allyson Coots, sophomore from Caney.
“The Shattered Aegis,” by graduated sophomore Shanna Davidson of Coffeyville, is a thriller under the direction of sophomore Clint Thomas of Lenapah.
Dallas Maddox, sophomore from Silver Lake, is directing his own work, “The History of World War II Abridged: A Comedy,” an often irreverent look at the war that changed the world.
“A Hymn for Justice,” by Christian Swigart, sophomore from Stilwell, a powerful tale of sacrifice for one’s beliefs, is directed by Sara Lumm, sophomore from Parsons.
And, “Mama’s House,” a Tyler Perry-inspired life lesson for one loud but loving family, written by Lemere Toles, sophomore from St. Louis, as directed by Rocky Read, a sophomore from Altamont.
There is no charge for admission to the one acts.
