“Marvin’s Room,” the Coffeyville Community College theatre department’s first offering of the 2013-14 season, is the story of a woman’s struggle to hold her life together and reunite her fractured family after learning she has leukemia.
Because of the relevance of the subject matter, the play by Scott McPherson is being produced as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Coffeyville, with all proceeds going to the local agency to assist in its fight against cancer.
The play, to be performed at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17-19 in the Spencer/Rounds Performing Arts Theatre on the CCC campus, is the first under the direction of new theatre instructor Allen Twitchell, a Coffeyville native.
“Marvin’s Room” was first staged at CCC in 1995 as directed by his predecessor Mark Frank with Twitchell playing the role of Marvin.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to revisit ‘Marvin’s Room,’” Twitchell said. “It was the first time Mark and I worked together on a show, so it has a special meaning for me. Beyond that, to partner with the local Relay for Life and perform the show as a fundraiser just makes it that much more important.”
Admission is free, but donations of any denomination will be accepted at the door.
