CCC Theatre students are selling tickets for the annual Alumni Dinner Theatre. This year's performance will be held on November 9th, 2012 in the CCC Cafeteria. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m.
This year's production is the hilarious comedy spoof based on Alfred Hitchcock's movies, "The 39 Steps," adapted for the stage by Patrick Barton, and written by John Buchan. The play is winner of two Tony Awards in 2008. The Roundabout Broadway production won the 2008 Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience and Outstanding Lighting Design and was also the winner of Best New Comedy-Laurence Olivier Award in 2007. Tickets are a $50 donation to raise money for the CCC Theatre program.
The play's concept calls for the entirety of the 1935 adventure film "The 39 Steps" to be performed with a cast of only four. One actor plays the hero, Richard Hannay, an actress (or sometimes actor) plays the three women with whom he has romantic entanglements, and two other actors play every other character in the show: heroes, villains, men, women, children and even the occasional inanimate object. This often requires lightning fast quick-changes and occasionally for them to play multiple characters at once. Thus the film's serious spy story is played mainly for laughs, and the script is full of allusions to (and puns on the titles of) other Alfred Hitchcock films, including Rear Window, Psycho, Vertigo and North by Northwest. The CCC alumni theatre cast includes Nick Rush as Richard Hannay, Sarah Rush as Annabella Schmidt/Pamela/Margaret, Scott Hooker as Clown 1 and Zac Freisberg as Clown 2. Hannah Carter is the stage manager and the production is being directed by Mark Frank.
