The Eta Gamma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Coffeyville Community College held its fall semester induction of new members December 10 in the Oak Room on campus. Thirty-two students were inducted into the honor Society representing four states and three countries. Eta Gamma President Dezirae Hamrick, served as marshal for the event while the processional featured the Phi Theta Kappa Song as recorded by the Concert Choir of the Copiah-Lincoln Community College, Wesson, Mississippi. Welcome and introductions were presented by Dezirae Hamrick while greetings and congratulations from Coffeyville Community College were delivered by Dean of Student Life, Ryan McCune.
The keynote address, “My Phi Theta Kappa Journey” was delivered by Eric Mueller, 2013-2014 Eta Gamma President and International President Candidate Finalist. Following the keynote address, current chapter officers presented personal chapter reflections including; Dezirae Hamrick, president; Danika Burton and Dominique Liddell, co-vice presidents of scholarship; Ian Fladie and Sara Lumm, co-vice presidents of service, Linelle Wilson and Aubrey Liby, co-vice presidents of fellowship; Heather Rogers, Relay For Life Chairman; Trae Venerable, treasurer; Jesus Medina, vice president of public relations; Trinnie Bush, secretary; Sang Pierre Gomez, international student representative; Jarod Taylor, vice president of communications; and Linda McFate, chapter advisor.
The following students then participated in the induction ceremony becoming Eta Gamma’s newest members: Havana, Derek Bayless; Gridley, Miranda Alumbaugh; Lyndon, Madison Cully; Independence, Lucas Gillman, Madison Keene; Dearing, Kori Oneslager; Caney, Colter Comstock, Klarissa Ryan; Wichita, Ricky Velasquez; Olpe, Jordan Ziegler; and from Coffeyville, Megan Bergstrom, Devan Cosper, Imari Davis, Carrie Elrod, Kirsten Ewy, Rayanndra Garoutte, Kelsey Hanigan, Abbie Herkelman, Quinton Hershey, Raisa Hoggatt, Kaylee Horner, Jordan Lemos, Kylie Mank, Koby Pugh, Chasadi Rogers and Heather Rodgers. From Sedalia, Missouri, was Dalton Christian; Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Dasha Traczyk; and from Nowata, Amber Bird. Neal Winter was a new inductee from Norfolk, Nebraska. Representing international students were Tania Akakadio from Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoli and David and Primerose Emile from Port-au-Pri, Haiti. The chapter received two transfer members, Tae Ree Glover from Central Community College in Hastings, Nebraska, and Melinda Johnson from Fort Scott Community College. Following the induction ceremony, the new member were honored at a reception.
