Coffeyville Community College’s Eta Gamma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa was represented at the Kansas Advisor Education Conference by chapter president and Kansas Region Vice President Eric Mueller, Kansas Region Vice President of Alumni Relations Aaron Neely, and chapter advisor Linda McFate. The conference was held August 2-3 at the Residence Inn, Wichita. Facilitator for the conference was Dr. Liesl Harris, Phi Theta Kappa Chapter Advisor, Jefferson State Community College, Birmingham, Alabama.
The conference was attended by Phi Theta Kappa Advisors from Highland, Pratt, Labette, Butler, Independence, Johnson, Cowley, Chanute – Ottawa, Garden City, and Coffeyville Community Colleges. The Kansas Region Officer Team held their fall training concurrent with the advisor conference. Serving as region officers are Etulan Joseph, President, Independence; Eric Mueller, Vice President of Correspondence, Coffeyville; Aaron Neely, Vice President of Alumni Relations, Coffeyville: Heather Duncan, Vice President of Northern District, Neosho Community College – Ottawa; Keri Thompson, Vice President of Southern District, Parsons; and Luis Salazar, Vice President of the Western District, Garden City. Region Officers presented their 2013-14 goals to the advisors in attendance. The advisor’s conference focused upon the following topics: Advisor’s Role and Benefits, Five Star Chapter Development Plan, Membership Recruitment, PAM Training, Motivating Members, Chapter Officers, Competitive Edge, CollegeFish.org, Honors in Action, College Project, and Honors in Action at Regional and International Levels.
Coffeyville’s Eta Gamma Chapter was named a Distinguished Chapter at the 2013 International Convention. The chapter placed in the top 32 of approximately 1,200 chapters internationally. The next events for the chapter include assisting with the Coffeyville Inter-State Fair and Rodeo, an officer retreat at Elk Falls on August 30-31, and presenting Raven Gear at the first home football game August 24. The chapter just completed a fund-raising project, picking sand hill plums for a Tulsa vendor.
