Thirty-two students representing eighteen towns were recently inducted into the Eta Gamma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Coffeyville Community College. The ceremony took place at 5:30 p.m. October 30 in the campus Oak Room. To be invited to Society membership, the students were required to earn a 3.75 GPA on their first 12 semester credit hours, a 3.65 GPA on their first 24 semester credit hours or a 3.5 GPA on their first 36 credit hours. Students that qualify receive a letter of invitation to membership from CCC President Linda Moley.
The student procession was led by Aaron Neely, Eta Gamma Chapter President from Topeka who also provided the greeting from the CCC faculty, staff, administration and chapter membership. Caitlin Shepard, Eta Gamma Vice President and Vice President of the Kansas Southern District brought greetings and congratulations from the Kansas Region and the chapters of the southern district. The keynote address was presented by CCC Vice President for Learning Alysia Johnston whose topic was “Phi Theta Kappa, A Red Raven Tradition. Chapter Advisor Linda McFate also congratulated the new inductees and shared with them chapter initiatives and upcoming activities. Concluding the evening was the induction ceremony conducted by the Eta Gamma officers, Aaron Neely, Kacie Serrault, Mercades Price, Dalton Lockwood, and Caitlin Shepard. Each new inductee received a white rose, symbol of the Society. A punch and cookie reception was held for all inductees and their guests.

Upcoming events for the chapter include the Honors in Action Conference at Emporia State University November 2-4 where the chapter will be presenting two sessions and the selection of the two students who will represent the college in the All USA Academic Team Competition.
