According to U.S. News Weekly the top career for 2012 is Registered Nursing. With a salary range of $44,190-$95,130, nursing topped the list in front of Software Developer (#2) and Pharmacist (#3). According to Michael Wolf, an economist, one of the reasons is that this profession will gain nearly 712,000 positions this decade.
Now is the time to consider Nursing for your future! Coffeyville Community College is accepting applications to the Nursing Program until October 12, 2012. Students who are accepted will begin their Nursing course work in January of 2013.
"Our LPN and RN graduates have been very successful in finding employment upon graduation,” said Director of Nursing Program, Heather Pollet. “Our graduates are prepared when they leave CCC for a career in nursing. In a job market where jobs may be difficult to secure, our profession has been found to always be in demand."
To apply, the Coffeyville Community College Nursing Program (CCCNP) requires a cumulative GPA of 2.75. Students may also meet this requirement with a 2.75 GPA of the nursing program prerequisites and general education coursework (General Psychology and Anatomy & Physiology). Students must have an active Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certificate to be accepted into the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Program.
The Nursing Program serves Coffeyville and surrounding communities in Kansas and Oklahoma. Caring, Compassion, and Competence are central concepts of the nursing program. The emphasis of the nursing program proposes to integrate the art and science of nursing education and practice with a focus on teaching students "how to think like a nurse" and how to take nursing actions to promote, maintain, and restore health for the individual, family, and community throughout the lifespan.
Nurses who successfully complete their LPN program during the first year will begin the coursework for the Registered Nurse (RN) program the second year. Prerequisite courses for the Registered Nurse program include General Psychology, Developmental Psychology and Anatomy & Physiology as well as completion of the Licensed Practical Nurse requirements. LPNs from out-of-state may be required to take additional course work to meet Kansas standardized curriculum requirements prior to admission to the RN program.
