Shawn Ready is starting his second year on the Red Raven training staff, but this will be his first year as the Head Athletic Trainer. In his new position, Ready has set the goal to improve athletic performance in CCC athletes. He will do this by working closely with the coaching staff and brining the athletes rehabilitation as well as introducing ‘pre-habilitation’ into their strength and conditioning regimens.
“We are here to help these athletes learn that it takes time to get their performance to a championship level. This is time outside of team meetings, practices, conditioning and strength training. They have to treat their body’s right, intake the proper nutrition and help themselves improve from soreness and injury,” said Ready.
Elizabeth Laird is the newest addition to the CCC staff as the new Assistant Athletic Trainer. Elizabeth comes to CCC from Evansville, Indiana, where she was the athletic trainer for the Evansville Otters, an independent professional baseball team.
Ready and Laird are working towards creating a professional training room that helps the athletic population be successful in different fields of play. “It is our hope that in the next year we can work with different programs out there to update our treatment modalities and general rehab equipment,” said Ready. “Our program has made improvements in that capacity and we just want to keep it moving that direction.”
Ready has his M.S. degree in Athletic Training from Texas State University and he B.S. degree in Kinesiology and Sports Studies from Eastern Illinois University. Prior to coming to Coffeyville, Shawn worked with athletes at Texas State University, was an intern for the New England Patriots and did research with Justin Sports Medicine during graduate school.
Laird completed her undergraduate studies at Boston University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Athletic training, and will earn her Master of Science in Kinesiology from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Laird first became interested in athletic training the summer before her senior year of high school and started her professional career in athletic training at the United States Naval Academy with Sprint football and women’s lacrosse. Laird attended TAMUCC as a graduate assistant and worked with the baseball team. She continued working with baseball at the University of Evansville and most recently worked with the Evansville Otters. At Coffeyville Community College, she is looking forward to having the opportunity to work with a large range of athletes involved in multiple sports.
