This scholarship, in memory of Greg Rigdon, will be presented each year to a student who is a graduate of Field Kindley High School and a current member of the Coffeyville Community College band. Preference will be given to a student who has a family member either working or retired from the Coffeyville Refinery.
Greg has strong roots in Coffeyville where he was born and raised and where his parents, Keith and Sonya Rigdon, still reside. He graduated from Field Kindley High School in 1975 and Coffeyville Community College in 1977. He was active in band (playing the French horn), FFA, and 4-H for many years. Greg’s parents, siblings, and two sons, all attended CCC and were in the band. Greg worked at the refinery on summer breaks while he was attending Kansas State University. Upon graduation from K-State in 1980, he became employed full-time at the refinery, where he remained for 34 years.
Greg believed that no matter what you do, you should find joy in it – if there was no joy, he would make some up. His family is very proud to honor the best son, brother, father, and husband anyone could hope for by providing this scholarship.
The 2014-2015 Greg Rigdon Memorial scholarship recipient is Chelsie Burroughs, a sophomore. Chelsie is currently pursuing an Associate in Arts degree at Coffeyville Community College. Chelsie graduated from Field Kindley High School and is the daughter of the late Vanessa Stith.
