The newly created Heartland Region (KS/NE/MO) of PTK held it's regional conference in Wichita this past weekend (Mar 3-5).
Four members of the chapter attended. Members participated in a fellowship event where they created artwork representing PTK and the region, and each team was awarded a prize at the Awards Gala on Saturday Evening.
PTK returned from the Heartland Region Spring Regional Conference with awards for being a Five-Star Chapter, 5th place for Distinguished Leadership Team in the Region (VP Service Alessandra Thompson and VP Scholarship Abigail Moss), and Five-Star Advisor Status for Advisor Melissa Gunby.
In order to achieve Five-Star Status, the chapter must complete, amongst other things, a research-based service project, called Honors in Action, on a pre-selected theme. The theme for 2022 and 2023 is The Art and Science of Play. The 2022 project examined the balance between concussion risks and mental and physical benefits to team sports.
Additionally, the College Project, in which the chapter works with the administration to create a project to benefit the campus and community, is also part of the Five-Star Chapter Plan. This year, the chapter implemented a can and bottle recycling program on campus. Bins can now be found in locations around campus; funds raised from recycling will be used to create new projects and activities for the chapter.
Thompson will be presented with her certificate for Distinguished Officer Team at the CCC Board Meeting on 3/20.
