It is with deep sympathy that we inform you of the loss of one of our own.
Otis Jacobs IV from La Cygne, Kansas, a freshman student-athlete at Coffeyville
Community College, tragically passed away last evening.
“Our hearts go out to the Jacobs family and the many friends Otis had at CCC. In his
short time on campus, we could see the passion he had both academically and
athletically to prepare himself for the future, said CCC President Dr. Marlon Thornburg.
“Mr. Jacobs will be greatly missed by the Red Raven family.” Coffeyville Community
College students, faculty, and staff held a candlelight vigil for Otis on Wednesday night.
Four County Mental Health has been an exceptional partner during this time.
Professional counselors have been brought in to assist our students, faculty, and staff
through this difficult journey. We are working with the family of Mr. Jacobs in this
time of immense sadness.
“Otis was new to the team but we were looking forward to helping him grow and
develop his skills both in the classroom and on the field,” said Athletic Director and
Head Football Coach Jeff Leiker. “We will dedicate the rest of this season to Otis Jacobs
#32Strong.”
Otis posted this final quote, “Remember me and smile, for it’s better to forget than to
remember me and cry.” Dr. Suess. Mr. Jacobs will forever be a member of the Red
Raven family and will continue to make a difference as his family has made the
decision to donate his organs; thus saving the lives of many others.
