Senator Dan Goddard and Representative Jim Kelly presented the Coffeyville Community College volleyball team with Certificates of Recognition from the Kansas Senate and Kansas House of Representatives. The Red Ravens won the NJCAA D-II Volleyball National Championship this past fall.
Head Coach Delice Downing and her team ended the season with a 44-2 record, setting the school record for wins in a season, and winning conference and district titles before putting the frosting on the cake with the school's first ever national title.
Individually, Adianez Reyes-Rivera and Daniela Santos were named NJCAA All-Americans. Adianez Reyes Rivera, Daniela Santos, and Talleyshia Morris were selected to the NJCAA Region VI first team, and Dekyra Dennis and Liz Domary Ortiz were selected for 2nd team honors. Coach Downing was named Coach of the NJCAA D-II National Tournament.
“It is the sense of family, respect for the team as a whole, and our faith that got us to this point,” said Downing.
Senator Goddard and Representative Kelly originally invited the team to Topeka for an official presentation on the floors of the House and Senate. Unfortunately, winter weather conditions prevented the team from traveling to Topeka in February. Determined to honor the team, Goddard and Kelly presented the team with their certificates on April 21 prior to a Legislative Coffee hosted by the Coffeyville Area Chamber of Commerce in Coffeyville.
