The Coffeyville Red Ravens placed 11th nationally at the 2018 NAQT Community College Championshp Tournament held on March 2-3 in Chicago. The Ravens finished with an overall record of 6-5 at the tournament.
Coffeyville opened the tournament by losing 345-70 to State College-Manatee (Fla.). State College-Manatee placed second overall out of 24 teams at the tournament.
Coffeyville then lost a 380-95 decision to De Anza College (Cupertino, Fla.) The Ravens bounced back to win four matches in a row, though. Coffeyville defeated the Valencia College "C" team 200-105. Valencia College is located in Orlando, Fla., and their "A" team won the national title.
Tallahassee (Fla.) Community College was next up for Coffeyville and the Ravens won that match 215-140. Coffeyville defeated Jefferson Community College (Louisville, Ky.) 260-60 and Cloud County Community College (Kan.) 275-35 to cap off their four match winning streak.
Coffeyville's winning streak was snapped by in-state nemesis Johnson County Community College (Overland Park, Kan.). The Cavaliers topped the Ravens 170-95. Bevill-State Community College (Jasper, Ala.) nipped the Ravens in a close match, 165-155.
Coffeyville got back on the winning side of the equation with a 140-120 win over Santa Fe College (Gainesville, Fla.). Coffeyville was then defeated by Redlands Community College (El Reno, Okla.) 220-55. Coffeyville finished championship tournament play with a 145-125 win over Broward Community College (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.).
Coffeyville Sophomore Karl Wittenburg was the ninth overall individual medalist. Wittenburg answered 48 toss-up questions in 11 matches, and averaged 40.77 points per 20 toss-up questions heard. Also competing for the Ravens were sophomores Dylon Villines, Isaiah Evensvold, Hannah Crisman and Harlene Alford.
