The Coffeyville Community College theatre department will kick off 2018 with a three-night production of "Sylvia", a play by A.R. Gurney. The play will be staged from Feb. 22-24 in the Spencer/Rounds Performing Arts Theatre at 7:30 p.m. each evening. Admission is free.
The play centers around Sylvia, a dog played by a human, the couple (Greg and Kate) who adopts her, and the comedy that results. The play originally opened off-Broadway in 1995 and included a cast of Sarah Jessica Parker, Blythe Danner and Charles Kimbrough.
The CCC production stars Kenzie Bauer as Sylvia, Trevor Jones as Greg and Tylar Dougan as Kate. Also appearing on stage will be Karl Wittenburg as Tom and Katelyn Shearhart as Phyllis and Leslie.
CCC Theatre Director Ryan Mahannah is the play's director and scenic designer. The production crew also includes stage manager Amber Holcomb, sound designer Kyler Beard, costume designer Lauren Scarborough and stage crew lead Marissa Beckstorm.
Kenzie Bauer and Tyler Dougan are the lighting designers. The scenic construction was completed by Clarence Ray and the construction students at the Coffeyville Technical Campus. Scenic painting was performed by the Theatre Production II and IV classes.
The show has some adult language and is recommended for audiences 13 and up.
