Hiring Procedure Updated 2/24/25

 COFFEYVILLE COMMUNITY COLLEGE

HIRING PROCEDURE POLICY

Coffeyville Community College (CCC) will follow the outlined hiring procedures when interviewing and filling open positions.  When a position is to be filled, the supervisor (Department Head or Vice President) is required to complete the “Hiring Procedures Checklist & Authorization to Advertise to Fill Vacancy” form.  The completed form is forwarded to the President for signature and then to the HR office to start the search.  A committee is assigned and orientation of committee members is completed prior to review of applications (e.g. orientation provides information on legal questions, hiring procedures, interview formats, reference checking, etc).

Open positions are listed on the college website, social media, and advertised in the local paper(s).  Professional openings (faculty and professional staff); in addition to the above, position announcements are sent to state colleges and universities, and posted on the Kansas Job Link website.  The Department Head (VP or Director) may also request the position be advertised in major newspapers, additional websites or professional journals.  If there is a cost with the advertising, the department head is to identify an account number for the cost.

All applications for an open position are documented in the HR Office and a copy of the application is sent to the search committee chair (or supervisor for hourly employees).  If the HR Office receives unsolicited applications for employment (e.g. no current opening), those applications are kept on file for up to six (6) months and reviewed when a suitable position becomes available.  Discarded applications are shredded.

Candidates selected by the interview committee for hire are referred to the President’s Office for final approval before an offer for employment is extended.  The HR Office will conduct a mandatory background check prior to employment.
