The Coffeyville Community College, Columbus Technical Campus has once again been recertified by National Automotive Technical Education Foundation (NATEF) which is directly tied to Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). This means the Automotive Technology program is nationally recognized for having an outstanding automotive program that is current with technology.
“We are proud to be recognized by NATEF for this certification. It is a rigorous process, but is well worth it,” said Automotive Services Instructor, Jeff Phillips. “We would like to thank Ron Downing from Pittsburg State University and Jared Lloyd from Mike Carpino Ford who guided our program through our advisory committee. We could not have done it without them.”
The program is certified in six areas: engine repair, brakes, steering and suspension, electrical systems, engine performance and heating and air conditioning. During the technical training, students receive skills to enter the industry as an entry-level automotive service and diagnostic technician. Through instruction and practice, students learn to repair the complex mechanical, electronic and computerized systems of today’s automobiles and light trucks. Students complete a nine-month program gaining technical skills that prepare them for work in the automotive industry including in dealerships, fleets and independent repair shops.
“Columbus has a strong automotive program that allows the students to receive current automotive training in a fast-paced learning environment,” said Phillips. “Much of this is due to the CCC program and administration, but it would not be possible to train students on live work without the help from the community bringing their cars in for service. Thank you all of those who keep our program working and we look forward to training tomorrow’s technicians at Coffeyville Community College.”
