Description of Health Courses Offered at the Columbus Technical Campus
CNAD-105. Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) (90 Contact Hours). 5 Credit Hours. This is a 90-hour training course designed to provide the skills needed to become a Kansas certified nurse aide. It will include training in direct patient care in all areas to fulfill their activities of daily living. Students must be 16 years of age, physically able to perform the duties required of a CNA, have no felony convictions, and have passed a TB test within the past year in order to be employed as a CNA. The CNA Course is available to current high school students tuition free.
CMAD-115. Certified Medication Aide (CMA) (75 Contact Hours). 4 Hours. This is a 60-hour course designed to teach the concepts of correct medication administration for the purpose of administering medications in a long-term care facility under the supervision of a professional nurse. Must be 18 years old and a certified nurse aide to enroll. Student must pass a state test at the completion of the course to become certified to pass medications. A current CNA certification is a requirement for this course. Class size is limited. Additional information at Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services.
CONT-230. Health Applications CMA Recertification (10 Contact Hours). The medication aide certificate is valid for two years from the date issued. This class offers the approved 10-hours of continuing education to maintain a valid certificate.
HHAD-120. Home Health Aide. 1 Hour (20 Contact Hours). This is a 20-hour course designed to teach the concepts of caring for clients in their own home using equipment and/or adapting materials available in the home. Student must hold a valid nurse aide certificate issued by the KDHE, be at least 18 years of age and have completed 4 years of high school or have a GED diploma.
