The Kansas Council for Workforce Education honored three Kansas college faculty at the August meeting. Coffeyville Community College (CCC) faculty earned two of the three Leadership Awards. Dick Robison, CCC Welding Instructor, was given the Excellence in Teaching award while Cindy Harrold, CCC-Columbus Technical Campus Director brought home the Leadership Award-Inside the Field. Robison has spent most of his life travelling the U.S. as a welder/pipefitter for the Union. Over the years he mastered his craft skills and now applies those skills and life lessons to the 40 plus students enrolled in the CCC Welding program each year. Robison is enthusiastic and has a great passion for welding. He brags that he can teach anyone to weld if they have the patience and desire. Robison has secured donations to meet the training requirements of the program and has strong industry contacts to provide a significant benefit to the program and students. Harrold is a director who is constantly looking to improve her campus and programs. The Columbus Campus supports primarily high school juniors and seniors for technical training, all of which Harrold coordinates with six area high schools, principals, and counselors. Harrold has a strong working relationship with the schools and has a “get it done” personality with excellent follow through on assigned projects. Her most recent project is the oversight and coordination of building a new facility in Columbus to expand the Welding program from Coffeyville to Columbus at the request of local industry.
