Coffeyville Community College's Roy Shafer and Dr. Marlon Thornburg received awards during the opening ceremony of the 2018 SkillsUSA competition on April 25.
Shafer, who is an automotive service instructor at CCC, was recognized for his years of service to the SkillsUSA organization and his upcoming retirement from education. Shafer currently serves as the President of the Kansas SkillsUSA Chapter Advisors, and he has been President three times since 2012. Shafer has served on the SkillsUSA Board of Directors since 2009.
Dr. Marlon Thornburg, CCC's Vice President for Business and Innovation, was presented the Postsecondary Administrator of the Year award. Each year the Kansas SkillsUSA Chapter recognizes postsecondary and secondary instructors and administrators for their contributions and support of the SkillsUSA chapters.
Coffeyville Community College has participated in SkillsUSA since the early 1970’s by sending students to compete in the annual event that tests their knowledge and performance in a variety of technical programs.
