Phi Theta Kappa Hosts Project Graduation Project on Saturday, May 10

Eta Gamma graduates in Phi Theta Kappa regalia with a therapy dog Boomer. The chapter hopes to purchase and have trained a therapy dog similar to Boomer. The Little Light House has expressed a desire for such a dog for the special needs children of the Little Light House.

Coffeyville Community College’s Eta Gamma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa will host Project Graduation Saturday, May 10, at 10 a.m.  Project Graduation is an Eta Gamma tradition which first began with the Bergen Community College in New Jersey.

Their focus was “Feed a Body, Feed a Mind” with books and non-perishable food items donated at graduation.  The project has since evolved to include service projects associated with a chapter’s current Honors in Action project.  The Eta Gamma Chapter currently has as its 2014-2015 Honors Study Topic, “How do Service Animals Enhance the Quality of Human Life?”

As the service or “action” component of their honors study topic, Eta Gamma members are raising funds to provide a therapy dog for the children at the Little Light House, a school for special needs children.  For a one dollar donation, persons can suggest a name for the therapy dog.  There will be a special exhibit in the foyer of Nellis Hall on Saturday morning May 10, both before and following graduation ceremonies where people can donate to the project.
