Art Program Receives Gift of Trees From Coffeyville Resources

Representatives from Coffeyville Resources presented several trees to CCC for use in the chainsaw sculpture class at CCC. The sculpture garden is located at 8th and Beech Streets in Coffeyville.

Coffeyville Community College found themselves on the receiving end of some very large gifts in the form of trees.

Recent storms created an excess of downed trees that needed to be cleared from the property at Coffeyville Resources.  When asked if CCC could use the trees, Art Instructor Michael DeRosa, jumped on the opportunity for his students.

DeRosa teaches a chainsaw sculpture class and was concerned he would not have the needed materials for this semester.  “The timing of this gift could not be more perfect as I was running out of locations to gather trees," said DeRosa. "This donation allows my students the opportunity to explore a form of art that is not readily available at many colleges.”

“Plus, we have heard from the Coffeyville Area Chamber of Commerce that the sculpture garden provides a tourist attraction for the community,” DeRosa noted.

Darin Rains, Vice President and General Manager of Coffeyville Resources Refining & Marketing, stated, “We are pleased to assist the art program with this donation and proud to support the learning opportunities at Coffeyville Community College.”

The CCC Sculpture Garden is located on the corner of 8th and Beech.  For more information on this program and others, visit the college website at www.coffeyville.edu or call 620.251.7700.
