CCC receives workforce grant for $100,000

Coffeyville Community College received a $100,000 Workforce Solutions Grant through the Kansas Department of Commerce for an expansion project at the college’s Columbus, Kan. campus.  The expansion includes the purchase of construction and welding equipment.  The expansion project involves funding from three grant sources to construct and equip a new construction and welding facility in Columbus.  The grant sources include $451,500 from the Economic Development Association (EDA), a requested $99,821 Perkins Reserve Fund Grant and the $100,000 Workforce Solutions Grant.  CCC recently received notification of approval for the EDA Grant to construct the facility.  The Perkins grant is pending.  The Workforce Solutions and Perkins Grants will be used as matching funds to the EDA Grant which requires a 50% match of cash or in-kind services.  Students in the CCC construction program will help with interior building of the new facility as an in-kind contribution.

The construction/expansion project is slated to begin in October and be completed by August 2009.  The program expansion in Columbus has been requested by industry in the area.
