New short courses added to CCC fall scheduleCoffeyville Community College (CCC) has a diverse schedule of short courses for students of all ages to take advantage of this fall. Be a life long learner and enroll today. National Standards Welding will be taught from Sept. 9 through Oct. 9 and again Oct. 21 through Nov. 20 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5-9 p.m. This course will introduce the serious welder to techniques used in heavy industry: cutting, beveling and welding various metals and thicknesses of pipe. Scott Hammer will teach this class. For those students who have completed a basic electrical course, James Stillwell is offering Industrial Wiring on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-9 p.m., Sept. 2-Oct. 9. Fix those dings and scratches in John Young’s Fix Your Own Wreck class on Tuesdays from 6-10 p.m. Bring in your project vehicle to fix in this introductory course. Sheet metal work, unibody repair and surface refinishing are covered in the class. This course runs from Sept. 9 through Nov. 11. Quilt lovers can take advantage of two classes this fall. Quilters may continue their learning in the Intermediate Quilting Class, Oct. 15-Dec. 10 on Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m. Although this course is offered as an intermediate class, beginners are welcome. There will be several projects to choose from featuring a variety of skill levels. Blacksmithing will be offered Aug. 27-Oct. 15 and again Oct. 22-Dec. 3 from 6-9 p.m. on Wednesdays. Class instruction consists of forge work, drawing, tapering and splitting of steel rod, simple scrollwork, decorative twists, forge welding, tendon joints, basic annealing and tempering of steel and fire tending. Wayne Joplin will teach this class. Construction Applications, Woods will be taught from Sept. 4-Nov. 20 on Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. This class utilizes woodworking equipment including band and table saws, wood lathes, scroll saws and much more to construct a project at any pace.
