Red Raven broadcast department competes in national contest 

The students representing Coffeyville Community college and the TV Broadcasting Department were awarded second place (silver medal) in the Broadcast News Production Contest at the annual National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City, Mo. on June 27.  The students participating were Katie Inman from Erie, Kan.; Robert Burrows from Coffeyville, Kan.; Kyle Schlotfelt from Coffeyville, Kan.; and Rhoan Murdock from Kansas City, Kan.  

The Skills USA Championships is considered the largest single day of corporate volunteerism in America and valued at $33 million in industry support of donated time, equipment, cash and material. All contests are run by and judged by industry using industry standards for employment. Over 500 industry judges participated this year.  

All winners receive medallions and frequently receive tools of their trade and/or scholarships to further their careers and education. The Skills USA Championships is for high school and college level students who are members of Skills USA. More than 5,000 students from every state and three territories competed in 91 contests in technical, skilled, and service occupations, including health occupations this year. In order to qualify for the national competition, the students competed in local and state contests. The state gold medal winners advanced to the national Skills USA Championships. 

Our CCC team competed in the post-secondary division against state colleges and universities.
