Chase Dennis, a sophomore and student-athlete at Coffeyville Community College, passed away Saturday afternoon at an area lake while swimming with friends.
“Each student at Coffeyville Community College is integral to the family dynamic of our campus. To lose one of our own greatly wounds us all,” said CCC President Linda Moley.
Four County Mental Health professionals have been brought in to assist students, faculty and staff during this difficult time. The College is working with the family of Mr. Dennis and offering full cooperation in this time of immense sadness.
“He was a fantastic kid, hard-worker, and always did everything we asked him to do," said CCC Head Track Coach Craig Perry. "He was full of life and signed with Northwestern State University in Louisiana earlier this week."
Dennis was ranked third nationally in the discus and fourth in the hammer heading into the NJCAA national outdoor track meet that will be held this week in El Dorado, Kan.
