Services Monday for Alexandra Bergen
Funeral
services were Monday, December 8, for Raven volleyball player Alexandra
Bergen.
Bergen died early Friday morning, December 5, from complications
following surgery for a ruptured appendix.
Bergen played setter on the Raven volleyball team and was a pre-med
major. She is survived by her parents, Kim and Marcus, and two
siblings, Sydney, age eight, and Avery, age two.

Chambers and Werbecky receive accolades
Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Chambers and freshman right side Ashley
Werbecky were named to the All-Conference and All-District teams
following the 2008 season. Chambers was named first team
All-District and second team All-Conference. Werbecky was selected
first team All-District and honorable mention All-Conference.
Chambers is a native of Plano, Texas, and Werbecky hails from Prince
George, British Columbia.

upset Butler, but fall to Cowley in District M Tournament
The Red Raven volleyball team needed to pull off two upsets in November
9's District M Tournament held in Arkansas City. The Ravens got
one, but fell one game short of reaching the NJCAA National Tournament.
The Ravens pulled off an upset of #9 nationally-ranked Butler in their
first District match. The Ravens defeated Butler 25-19, 25-14,
19-25, and 25-19.
"It was fun to watch them pull everything
together that they were taught all season and use it at the right time,"
said Coffeyville Head Coach Delice Downing. "Matches like that are
reasons why coaches love their jobs so much."
"We only had ten players and my middle
Cheyenne Russell came down on the other teams foot," said Downing.
"She received a second degree ankle sprain, and it swelled up like a
tennis ball; but, she taped it and finished the whole day."
The win advanced the Ravens to the District championship match against
#2 nationally-ranked Cowley. Playing on their home floor, the
Tigers were too much for the Ravens, winning the District championship
17-25, 16-25, and 21-25.
"My girls played so well," said Downing.
"This was a learning
experience for all of them, and all I have to say is watch out for us
next season."
The Ravens with just two sophomores on the roster finish the season
19-20 overall.

take care of business in sweep of Fort Scott

Chambers were honored between sets of the Red Ravens final home match of
the season against Fort Scott on October 29. Morrison is from
Coffeyville while Chambers hails from Plano, Texas.
The Red Ravens improved to 5-5 in conference play after sweeping Fort
Scott in three sets in a KJCCC match on October 29. The Ravens won
the match 25-14, 25-19, and 25-18. The Ravens are now 17-19
overall on the season. The Ravens will finish the regular season
on Monday, November 3. The Ravens will travel to Concordia,
Kansas, to face the Cloud County Thunderbirds. The Region VI
District II Tournament will follow on November 8-9. Tournament
pairings and game locations will be announced when they become official.
Ravens defeat Friends JV
The Red Raven volleyball team won their second consecutive game with a
sweep of Friends JV on Oct. 18. The Ravens won by the scores of
25-15, 25-14, and 25-18 to improve to 16-17 overall. The Ravens
are back in action on Monday, October 20, when they travel to Lee's
Summit, Mo. to face Longview College. The Ravens return home on
Wednesday, October 22, for a homecoming week tilt with Butler.
First serve will be at 6:30 p.m. in Nellis Hall.
Ravens get win over NOC-Enid
The Ravens defeated non-conference foe Northern Oklahoma-Enid in four
sets on October 1. The Ravens got off to a slow start, losing the
first set 25-12. The Ravens got rolling and won the next three
25-18, 25-18 and 25-22. The win improves the Ravens to 14-10
overall.
The Ravens next conference and region match will be October 8 when they
face #4 Johnson County in Overland Park. The Ravens return home on
October 13 for a big match against #8 Cowley with first serve at 6:30
p.m. in Nellis Hall. [Conference

Ravens get big win over KCK
The Red Ravens needed a big win on Monday night, and they got it over
Kansas City in four sets. The Ravens dropped the first set 22-25,
but rebounded to win the next three 25-20, 25-20 and 25-23. The
win improved the Ravens' record to 4-1 in conference play and to 5-1 in
region play. The Ravens are currently tied for third in the
conference standings, 1.5 games behind Cowley. The Ravens are
third in the region standings, one game behind both Cowley and Johnson
County.
Ravens handle Allen County
The Red Raven volleyball team improved to 3-1 in conference play and to
10-6 overall with a win over Allen County on Wednesday night in Nellis
Hall. The Ravens won in three straight sets, 27-25, 25-15 and
25-15.
Sophomore Sarah Chambers had a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs.
Chambers also added three aces. Megan Bailey had a solid night
with seven kills and five blocks. Courtney Lewis had five kills
and two blocks.
"Courtney and Megan held the middle of the court down," said CCC Head
Volleyball Coach Delice Downing.
Ashley Werbecky, who played just two of the three sets because of a
gimpy ankle, had six kills, two blocks, one ace and seven digs.
Kourtney Martin contributed six kills and had zero errors out of 15
attempts. Alyx Glover and Pauline Yang had ten digs each.
Alex Bergan contributed 28 assists in three sets. Glover currently
ranks ninth in the nation in assists. Glover also added an ace,
and Stephanie Oswald had two aces on the night.
The Ravens hit the road for most of the next month. The Ravens
only home match remaining in September will be on Monday, September 29,
when they host Kansas City at 6:30 p.m. in Nellis Hall. [Updated

Ravens defeat NOC-Enid
In took five games, but the Ravens defeated NOC-Enid on September 15 in
Nellis Hall. The Ravens won the first game 25-22, but dropped the
next two by the scores of 17-25 and 22-25. The Ravens then bounced
back to win the fourth game, 25-22, to set up a tie-breaking game.
The Ravens got on a roll and won the fifth game 15-9.
Sarah Chambers led the team with a double-double of 23 kills and 15
digs. Chambers also added an ace. Cheyenne Russell had three
kills out of three attempts and two blocks. Courtney Lewis had
five kills and only one error out of 10 attempts. Ashley Werbecky
had 12 kills on 35 attempts and only three errors. Raissa Santos
added five kills.
Alyx Glover had a season high 30 digs and served 100% with two aces.
Pauline Yang added 10 digs and Alex Bergan had two aces, six digs, and a
team high 45 assists. The Ravens, 9-6 overall, are back in action
on September 17 when they host Allen County at 6:30 p.m. in Nellis Hall.
Ravens defeat Pirates in four
The Red Raven volleyball team improved to 2-0 in conference play and to
8-4 overall after defeating the Independence Pirates Wednesday night in
Nellis Hall. The first game of the match went to overtime with
Ravens finally prevailing 32-30. The Ravens took the second game
25-22, but the Pirates held on to win the third game 25-23 to force a
fourth game. The Ravens fell behind early, 6-2, in the fourth
game, but rallied for a convincing 25-13 win to take the match.
Sophomore Sarah Chambers finished with a match-high 19 kills and 19 digs
for the Ravens. Freshman Kourtney Martin recorded 12 kills with
just two errors. Ashley Werbecky had 10 kills out of 14 attempts
and only one error. Megan Bailey added six kills and two blocks,
and Courtney Lewis added five blocks. Freshman Alex Bergan had a
season high 46 assists. Alyx Glover led the team with 25 digs.
The Ravens had a great night from the service line, recording 26 aces
with only 12 errors. Werbecky had seven aces with only one error.
Martin, Glover and Bergen added five aces each, and Chambers had four.
The Ravens, after a hectic early season schedule, will take a short
breather before taking on Seminole State on Tuesday, September 9.

Ravens sweep Mid America JV
The Red Raven volleyball team swept the Mid America Nazarene JV in three
games in a Labor Day match in Nellis Hall. The Ravens won the
match 25-14, 25-21, and 25-17.
Sarah Chambers had ten kills in 18 attempts with just three errors while
hitting .389.
"She must continue to play her game," said head coach Delice Downing.
"I let her know that the key is to bring these girls up to her
potential, and for them to do that, she has to keep playing her 'A'
game."
Ashley Werbecky and Megan Bailey contributed six kills each.
Courtney Lewis had a solid match with five kills and three blocks, and
Raissa Santos added four kills.
The Ravens hit 17 aces on the night. Werbecky had six aces and
only two errors. Alyx Glover hit five aces and led the defense
with 10 digs. Alex Bergan led the team with 28 assists.
"Alex is my eyes and ears on the court," said Downing. "She is
really connecting with our hitters, and she is only going to get
stronger and stronger in the setting spot."
The Ravens, 7-4 overall on the season, are back home on Wednesday with a
match against Independence. First serve is at 6:30 p.m. in Nellis
Hall.
Ravens place 2nd in weekend tourney
The Red Raven volleyball team placed second in a tournament hosted by
Allen County this past weekend. The Ravens started play by
dropping a match to Butler, 20-25 and 20-25. The Ravens got on the
winning track by
defeating Minnesota West College in three games. The Ravens
dropped the first game 25-18, but won the final two 25-20 and 15-10 for
the win. The Ravens then nipped NEO in three games. The
Ravens won the first game 25-23, but NEO took the second, 25-18.
The Ravens then held off NEO 15-13 in the third game to take the match.
The Ravens then defeated the Hesston Owls 25-15 and 25-23 to advance to
the tournament championship match against Butler. The Ravens,
though, fell to the Grizzlies 19-25 and 20-25. The Ravens, after a
Labor Day match with the Mid America Nazarene JV, host Independence on
Wednesday. First serve is at 6:30 p.m. in Nellis Hall.
Ravens handle Labette in three
The Red Ravens improved to 3-2 on the season after defeating Labette on
Aug. 27 in three games. The Ravens won the match 25-20, 32-30, and
25-21.
Courtney Lewis led the defense with a season high 21 blocks. Sarah
Chambers had a team-high 11 kills and Alex Bergan had 28 assists.
Chambers also added a team-high 17 digs while Alyx Glover hit
double-figures with 11 digs.
"We are very young and getting to know each other more," said Head Coach
Delice Downing. "We have to control the net more and we will be
fine."
Ravens do the splits at season opening tourney
The Red Raven volleyball team launched the 2008 season on August 22-23
at a tournament hosted by Butler in El Dorado. The Ravens finished
the tournament with a 2-2 record.
The Ravens defeated Allen County to begin the pool play part of the
tournament. The Ravens defeated the Cardinals in three games by
the scores of 25-16, 25-17, 25-13. The Ravens then battled the NEO
Golden Norse in a four game match. The Ravens lost the first two
games 26-28 and 23-25 before bouncing back to win the third, 25-19.
NEO caught fire in the fourth game, defeating the Ravens 25-15 to win
the match three games to one. The Ravens rebounded to defeat
Labette in their third match. The Ravens won the match in three
games, 25-11, 25-23 and 25-22. By winning two of three matches,
the Ravens finished second in their pool.
The Ravens then played the second place team of the other pool, Neosho
County. The Ravens dropped the first game of the match, 25-23.
The Ravens rebounded with a 25-21 win in the second game, but dropped
the final two games 20-25 and 19-25 to finish the tournament with a 2-2
overall record.
The Ravens are back in action on Wednesday, August 27, when they travel
to Parsons to face Labette at 6:30 p.m. The Ravens will play in
another weekend tournament on Friday and Saturday at Allen County in
Iola. The Ravens home opener is on Labor Day when they invite Mid
America Nazarene JV to the friendly, air-conditioned, confines of Nellis
Hall East. First serve for the home opener is at 6 p.m. [2008

Bowen and Wyatt sign volleyball scholarships, Seichepine heads to KU
on rowing offer
Three former Red Raven volleyball players recently signed scholarship
offers. Katy Bowen, who played middle blocker and right side for
the Ravens last season, inked with Dowling College. Dowling
College is a NCAA Division II program in Long Island, New York.
Dowling competed at nationals in volleyball this past season.
Bowen was named honorable mention all-conference last season for the
Ravens.
Morgan Wyatt signed a volleyball scholarship with Valdosta State
University in Valdosta, Georgia. Valdosta, a Division II program,
traditionally fields a strong volleyball team. Wyatt was named
all-conference both as a freshman and sophomore at Coffeyville.
Six of the eight Raven sophomores from the 2007 team have signed
scholarship offers to continue their careers at four year schools.
Signing previously were Brianna Lee with Western Carolina, Victoria
Thomas with Rutgers, Rebecca Booth with Dana College, and Tagata Fo'a
with Henderson State University.
A seventh member of the 2007 sophomore class also signed a
scholarship offer, but not in volleyball. Jessica Seichepine, who
was first team all-conference and first team all-region in 2007, is
heading to the University of Kansas on a rowing scholarship.
"I wish them all the luck and am very proud of their
accomplishments," said Raven head volleyball coach Delice Downing.
"The colleges that these young ladies have signed with are extremely
lucky to have such well-rounded student-athletes coming to them. I
was blessed to coach them."
Brianna Lee signs with Western Carolina
Brianna Lee, a 2008 CCC graduate on the Red Raven volleyball team,
recently signed a letter-of-intent to play at Western Carolina
University, a NCAA Division I school. Lee is a 5-11 OH/RS from
Sierra Vista, Arizona.
Thomas and Booth sign with four-year schools
A pair of Red Raven volleyball players signed letter-of-intents with
four-year institutions in early May. Victoria Thomas, a sophomore
from Richardson, Texas, signed with Rutgers University. The
Scarlet Knights are a NCAA Division I program in the Big East
Conference. Neodesha, Kansas, native Rebecca Booth signed with
Dana College, a NAIA program in Nebraska. [more]

signs with Henderson State
Coffeyville Community College volleyball player Tagata Fo'a recently
signed a letter-of-intent with Henderson State University in
Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Henderson State is a NCAA Division II
institution in the Gulf South Conference.
Fo'a, a setter, led the Ravens in assists in 2007. Fo'a, a
sophomore from Pago Pago, American Samoa, was also named honorable
mention all-conference following the season. [more]
Four Ravens named to conference All-Academic Team
Four Red Raven volleyball players were named to the KJCCC
All-Academic Team. Students were required to have 3.5 or higher
grade point average in the fall term to be selected. Players
selected are: sophomore Jessica Giesen, Harper, Kan.; sophomore Victoria
Thomas, Richardson, Texas; sophomore Brianna Lee, Sierra Vista, Ariz.;
and sophomore Kaitlin Coblentz, Wichita, Kan.
Seichepine named first team all-region, Wyatt second team
Jessica Seichepine and Morgan Wyatt added to their post-season awards
resume. Seichepine was named first team All Region 6, District M,
following the 2007 season. Seichepine is a 5-11 sophomore outside
hitter from Nortonville, Kansas. Wyatt, a sophomore right side
from Lee's Summit, Missouri, was selected to the second team. The
Ravens completed the 2007 season with a 33-13 record, breaking the
school record for wins in a season.
Seichepine named first team all-conference; four Ravens named
honorable mention
Jessica Seichepine, a 5-11 sophomore outside hitter from Nortonville,
Kansas, was named to the first team KJCCC All-Conference team.
Four other Ravens received honorable mention accolades. Honorable
mention selections were Victoria Thomas, Katy Bowen, Morgan Wyatt, and
Tagata Fo'a. Thomas is a 5-8 sophomore outside hitter from
Richardson, Texas. Bowen is a 5-11 sophomore middle blocker from
Topeka, Kansas. Wyatt is a 5-8 sophomore right side from Lee's
Summit, Missouri, and Fo'a is a 5-6 sophomore setter from Pago Pago,
American Samoa.
#17 Ravens set school win record at home triangular
The Red Raven volleyball team established a new
school record for wins in a season by sweeping two matches at a home
triangular on October 20. The Ravens defeated Pratt in four games
to win their 31st match of the season, breaking the previous record held
by the 1999 team. [more]
Volleyball ties school win record with win at Labette
The Red Raven volleyball team notched win number 30 on Wednesday
night at Labette, tying the school record for wins in a season.
The record, set by the 1999 team, can be broken at home on Saturday
afternoon when the Ravens host a triangular beginning at 2 p.m.
The Ravens will play Pratt at 2 p.m. The Ravens second match of
the evening will be at 6 p.m. when they take on the William Woods JV at
6 p.m. The Ravens are 30-12 overall on the season.
