Raven cross country teams open season at Cowley meet

The Red Raven men placed second and the women third at the season opening Cowley Tiger Cross Country Invitational on August 28 at Arkansas City, Kansas.

The Raven men totaled 73 points to finish a distant second to Cowley.  Cowley won the meet with 22 points.  Cloud County placed third with 87 points, Butler fourth with 95 points, Colby sixth with 106 points and Neosho County seventh with 142 points.

Julius Bor of Cloud County won the 5k event in a time of 16:03.50.  The top finisher for the Ravens was Seth Freeman who placed tenth with a time of 17:17.80.  Raven finishes for the meet were:

  • Prince Nwokorie, 17:56.80, 20th overall
  • John Korir, 17:59.80, 21st overall
  • Martin Hojda, 18:17.80, 24th overall

  • Darnell Pittman, 19:04.40, 34th overall
  • Tyler Perry, 19:21.30, 36th overall
  • Ike Sumpter, 20:46.40, 46th overall

The Raven women finished third overall in a two mile race.  Cowley placed first with 34 points, Colby second with 43 points, Coffeyville third with 68 points, and Cloud County fourth with 71 points.

Tonya Nero of Colby was the race with a time of 12:36.50.  Top Raven finisher was Letti Zapata who placed ninth with a time of 14:06.30.  Raven finishes for the meet were:

The next event for the cross country team is on September 20 when they travel to Joplin Missouri for the Missouri Southern Stampede.  In this event, the men will run an 8k race while the women will stretch out to a 5k event.
