Three Red Raven track athletes reached All-American status at the NJCAA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships held May 15-17 in Levelland, Texas.  Septembra Teuscher, Rashad Cannon, and DJ Bland were each named All-Americans due to performances at the national meet.

Teushcer, a freshman from Paola, Kansas, finished second in the women's javelin.  Teuscher unleashed a throw of 39.30 meters (128' 11") to finish just 1.2 meters, or four feet, behind national champion thrower Ashton McGuire of Central Arizona College.

Cannon placed fifth in the men's long jump.  Cannon's best jump in the finals was 7.52 meters (24' 8.25").  Earlier in the season, Cannon placed second in the long jump at the indoor national meet.

Bland finished seventh in the men's decathlon, amassing 5,559 total points.  Bland's best events in the decathlon were the pole vault and the 400 meter dash where he placed third in those individual events.

"We were very happy to leave nationals with three All-Americans, but with a much larger squad next year, we expect to have an even better showing at this meet next season," said assistant track coach Heather Schmidt.

Other Ravens who competed at the national meet included Brandy Simpson who just missed All-American status in the women's heptathlon and the women's javelin.  Simpson placed tenth in the heptathlon with 3,863 points.  In the javelin, Simpson placed ninth with a throw of 34.93 meters, or 114' 7".

The men's 4 x 100 meter relay team did not place, but turned in a season best time of 41.8 seconds.  Members of the 4 x 100 meter relay team were Cannon, Dravis Lawson, Ramon Harris and Trentell Bottley.

The Ravens 4 x 800 meter relay team competed at the national meet and placed 14th with a time of 8:19.93.  The Ravens 4 x 800 meter relay team consisted of Chris Gravley, Robert Gault, Isiah Sack, and Seth Freeman.

Tarayla Merriweather finished in 12th place in the women's triple jump.  Merriweather's best jump was 11.00 meters, or 36' 1.25".

In the final team standings, the women finished 19th and the men placed 22nd.

"We are very proud of the 12 student-athletes who represented Coffeyville Community College at nationals," said Schmidt.  "This is a great experience for our athletes, especially for the 9 freshman who competed."
