Former Raven Head Coach, KU Athletic Director passes away
Bob Frederick, who took criticism for hiring an
obscure assistant named Roy Williams as Kansas
basketball coach and later helped create the Big 12
Conference, died Friday night following a bicycling
accident. He was 69. Frederick served as KU
Athletic Director from 1987 to 2001. Frederick
also coached the men's basketball team at
Coffeyville Community College during the 1971-72
season, compiling a 21-9 record.

Coffeyville falls to Garden City, season ends with 24-8 record

For the first time since 2001, the Coffeyville Red Ravens were
eliminated before the Region VI Tournament semi-finals.
Coffeyville was defeated by Garden City on Saturday night, 85-72, in the
second round of the region tournament in Wichita.
Coffeyville trailed 44-42 at the half, but made just 5-of-28 shots
from the field in the second half and simply couldn't generate enough
offense to keep pace with Garden City. Terrance Hill had a great
game in his final appearance in a Red Raven uniform. Hill scored
23 points on the strength of 6-of-9 shooting from beyond the three-point
arc. Lenny Daniel scored 13 points for Coffeyville. Daniel
ends his Coffeyville career with 1,042 points scored. Antoine
Branch added 12 points and Darryl Johnson hauled in 11 rebounds.
Thomas Manzano slashed his way to 25 points for Garden City to lead
all scorers. Richard Thomas had 18 points for Garden City and
Martell Jackson added 14 points.
Coffeyville ends the season with a 24-8 overall record.
Coffeyville rallies past Dodge City, advances to second round of Region
VI Tournament
Coffeyville, led by a game-high 27 points from sophomore forward Lenny
Daniel, rallied past Dodge City 90-69 on Wednesday night in a first
round Region VI Tournament game played in Coffeyville's Nellis Hall.
With the win, Coffeyville advances to play Garden City in the second
round at 5 p.m. on Saturday. The remainder of the Region VI
Tournament will be played in Wichita at the Koch Arena on the campus of
Wichita State University. The arena is located on the corner of
21st and Hillside in Wichita.
Coffeyville trailed Dodge City 31-28 with 3:37 left in the first half,
but ended the half with an 11-0 run to take a 39-31 lead into the locker
room. Dodge City would be as close as six, 62-56, midway through
the second half, but Coffeyville eventually pulled away for a convincing
win.
Terrance Hill added 18 points for Coffeyville and Antonio Jones scored
15 points. Darryl Johnson was a monster on the boards, ripping
down 13 rebounds. Johnson also had a team-high five assists.
Coffeyville improves to 24-7 on the season.
Herkelman gets KJCCC East Coach of the Year Award, Daniel named first
team All-Conference
For the sixth time in his 14 years as head men's basketball coach at
Coffeyville Community College, Jay Herkelman has been named KJCCC East
Conference Coach of the Year. Herkelman led the Ravens to a share
of the KJCCC East Conference title in 2008-2009, the teams eighth
conference title in the last nine years. The Ravens ended the
regular season 23-7. Through the regular season, Herkelman has a
career mark of 371-107 (.776) at Coffeyville.
Sophomore forward Lenny Daniel was selected first team All-Conference.
Daniel averaged 17.3 points per game and 7.9 rebounds per game to lead
Coffeyville in both categories. Through the regular season, Daniel
has scored 1,002 points in his two years at Coffeyville.
Sophomore guards Terrance Hill and Antoine Branch were both named second
team All-Conference. Hill averaged 10.5 points and 4.7 rebounds
per game and led the Ravens with 41% three-point shooting. Branch
averaged 11.4 points per game and led the Ravens with 83% shooting from
the charity stripe and was second on the team in three-point shooting,
nailing 40% of attempts.
Sophomore guard Antonio Jones was an honorable mention selection.
The transfer guard averaged 11.6 points per game for Coffeyville.
Coffeyville defeats KCK, clinches share of Jayhawk East conference title

Coffeyville defeated Kansas City 82-70 on Saturday afternoon and
clinched a share of the Jayhawk East conference title in the process.
Lenny Daniel scored 18 points and had eight rebounds for Coffeyville.
Daniel also reached the milestone of scoring 1,000 points in his
Coffeyville Community College career. Daniel finished the game
with 1,002 career points at CCC. Terrance Hill added 17 points including 3-of-4 from beyond the
three-point arc. Antoine Branch had 14 points, and Antonio Jones
scored 12 points.
Coffeyville has won eight, or at least a share, of the last nine Jayhawk
East conference titles. Coffeyville will host a first round Region
VI playoff game on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in Nellis Hall.
Coffeyville, the top seed in the East, will host Dodge City.
Nellis
Hall court named in honor
of Jay Herkelman
The Nellis Hall court now has a name - the Jay Herkelman Court.
The court was formally named after current men's basketball head coach
Jay Herkelman. at a dedication ceremony on January 26, 2008.
The idea was originated by two Coffeyville basketball boosters, Max
Williams and Monte Coffman. Last fall, both men approached the CCC
Board of Trustees who agreed it was time to recognize the achievements
of Jay Herkelman in prestigious fashion. [more]
