Ravens throw Scotties in the dog poundThe Red Ravens got another stellar defensive effort Saturday night and the offense got untracked in the second quarter as the Ravens waltzed to a 37-2 win over the Highland Scotties at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Raven defense did not allow a point all night; the only Highland points were scored on a safety, stopping the Ravens in the end zone midway through the second quarter. The Ravens defense harassed Highland's Quincy Woods the entire evening, sacking the Scotties quarterback eight times. The defense held the Scotties to just 105 yards of total offense on 68 plays, 41 rushing and 64 net passing. The Ravens offense also came to life after a scoreless first quarter which extended the team's scoreless streak to five quarters overall. However, it was the Ravens' special teams that got Coffeyville on the board first. Kenny Armstrong broke loose after a couple of nice cuts for a 58 yard punt return for a touchdown with 10:57 left in the second quarter. The extra point attempt was blocked. After Highland cut the lead to 6-2 on a safety, the Ravens offense started to fire on all cylinders with just under four minutes remaining in the half. The Ravens took over on downs at their own two yard line with 3:56 remaining in the half. The Ravens would mount an eight play, 98 yard scoring drive culminating with a 33 yard pass from Nick Hardesty to Deshon Daniels with 1:09 left in the half. Hardesty also hit Andrew Joseph with a 50 yard bomb during the drive. Andrew Joseph made the extra point and the Ravens took a 13-2 lead in the locker room. The second half would be all Ravens. Kenny Armstrong scored on a two yard touchdown run with 11:13 left in the third quarter, completing a 10 play, 66 yard drive for the Ravens. Andrew Joseph's extra point attempt missed, leaving the Ravens' lead at 19-2. Coffeyville would extend the lead to 22-2 on Andrew Joseph's 21 field goal with 8:14 left in the third quarter. The Ravens had a chance for more since the drive started on the Scotties' four yard line due to high snap on a fourth down punt attempt. Highland recovered the fumble, but turned the ball over on downs to the Ravens. The Ravens would make it 28-2 with 24 seconds left in the quarter when Andrew Joseph made a nice catch in the corner of the end zone on a pass thrown by Hardesty for a 23 yard scoring play. Vail's extra point attempt missed. Andrew Joseph would score again just a couple of minutes later, hauling in a 12 yard touchdown pass from Hardesty with 13:06 left in the game. Joseph's kick failed, but the Ravens had a commanding 34-2 lead. The Ravens would make it a 37-2 margin when Vail connected on a 25 yard field goal attempt with 1:38 left in the game. The Ravens' defense would close out the game stopping Woods at the Coffeyville one yard line as time expired, maintaining the Ravens' defensive shutout. Nick Hardesty was 12-of-26 on the night with 223 yards and three touchdowns. Andrew Joseph caught five passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns. Deshon Daniels had the other touchdown reception and a total of two catches for 40 yards. Edd Noonan was the leading rusher with 86 yards on 10 carries.
