Ravens fall in overtime to BroncbustersThe Red Ravens blocked a field goal attempt with 11 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime, but the Garden City Broncbusters would come out on top with a 27-20 win Saturday night in Garden City. The Ravens and Broncbusters had battled to a 20-20 tie and with just 11 seconds remaining in regulation play, Garden City's offense had the ball on the Ravens two yard line. The Broncbusters elected to kick a field goal on a third down play and the Ravens called two consecutive timeouts to freeze Broncbuster kicker Colton McFerrin. The strategy worked as a low kick from McFerrin was blocked by the Ravens' defensive line. The Ravens recovered the ball on the Garden City 25 yard line. The Ravens would run one play to end regulation. Garden City had first possession in the overtime period and Chase Beiberle scored his third touchdown of the night with a five yard run to give the Broncbusters the lead. McFerrin connected on the extra point to make the score 27-20 Garden City. The Ravens overtime possession started well. Nick Hardesty connected with Anthony Sanchez on a 10 yard pass, putting the ball on the Garden City 15 yard line. The Ravens would gain a net zero yards on two plays, setting up a third down and 10 play. Hardesty, scrambling to find an open receiver, was intercepted by the Broncbusters' Darrell Young, sealing Garden City's win. After a scoreless first quarter, Garden City struck first in the second quarter. Ryan Smith scored on a two yard touchdown run to cap off a 67 yard scoring drive with 12:11 left in the second quarter. The extra point attempt failed, leaving Garden City's lead at 6-0. The Ravens would answer on the next possession. Hardesty would score on a two yard quarterback keeper with 8:26 left in the second quarter and Cody Vail's extra point would give the Ravens a 7-6 lead. Garden City had an opportunity to regain the lead before halftime, but McFerrin missed on a 32 yard field goal attempt. The Ravens would extend the lead to 13-6 with 8:03 left in the third quarter when Hardesty connected with Andrew Joseph on a 12 yard pass for a touchdown. The extra point attempt misfired when a high snap from the center resulted in a busted kick opportunity for the Ravens. Garden City would knot the score at 13-13 with 2:13 left in the third quarter when Beiberle scored on a five yard run and McFerrin's successful extra point attempt. Garden City started the drive on their own 41 yard line after recovering a Raven fumble at the 5:37 mark of the third quarter. The Ravens, though, would waste little time in regaining the lead. Hardesty would score his second rushing touchdown on a four yard keeper with 14:24 left in regulation. Vail's extra point would give the Ravens a 20-13 advantage. Garden City would answer on their next possession. Quarterback Eugene Smith would hit Beiberle with a 16 yard touchdown pass with 10:39 remaining. McFerrin's extra point tied the score at 20-20. The game would remained tied until overtime. The Ravens drop to 1-3 in conference play and to 2-4 overall. Hardesty completed 17 of 27 passes for 200 yards with one touchdown and an interception.
