Walterscheid
named Distinguished Alumnus for 2008

graduate Pete Walterscheid at the annual Distinguished Alumni Luncheon
on Friday, October 24.
Pete Walterscheid attended local schools
graduating from Field Kindley High School in 1970. He graduated
from Coffeyville Community College with a pre-pharmacy curriculum in
1972. While attending CCC, he served as student government
president, was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, National Forensics Society,
and was drum major of the Red Raven band under the baton of Jim
Criswell.
He continued his studies at the University of Kansas, receiving his
B.S. degree in Pharmacy in 1975. He returned to Coffeyville to
practice pharmacy under the employment of Myron Kelso of the Columbia
Drug Store and soon after accepted a job as manager of Revco Drug, where
he worked for 15 years before opening his own pharmacy, The Medicine
Shoppe, in 1991 with his wife Nancy.
Upon his return to Coffeyville after graduating from KU, Pete became
active in several capacities in the community. He has served in
the past on the local boards of the Red Cross, Midland Theater
Foundation, CCC Foundation Board, Holy Name School Board, and
Coffeyville Cultural Arts. He was a founding board member of
Hospice Care, Inc. which later merged with Harry Hynes Hospice, Inc.
He served as manager of the Coffeyville Municipal Band for over 20
years. He is past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council
991 of Holy Name Parish and also served as District Deputy representing
other councils in southeast Kansas.

In 2004, he was presented with a Distinguished Alumnus Award for the
Kansas Region of Phi Theta Kappa. He has also received the
Medicine Shoppe Distinguished Achievement Award, and is currently
serving his second term on the Owners Advisory Council of Medicine
Shoppe International, representing 800 Medicine Shoppe owners.
His professional associations include: American Pharmaceutical
Association, Kansas Pharmacists Association, National Community
Pharmacists Association, and SEK Academy of Pharmacists. He is a
lifetime alumni member of the University of Kansas.
His wife, Nancy, has been by his side for 36 years, and they have
raised four daughters and currently have two grandsons.
Pete's outside interests include theater and music, and he is a
part-time professional magician. He recently auditioned and was
accepted by the Academy of Magical Arts as a magician member of the
famed Magic Castle in Hollywood, California.
